In other news, I ended up getting gold plated rings cause they were on sale. Turns out I don't know very many people that wear gold colored jewelry. Let me know if you do. Perhaps you'll get something fun later this summer. I'm looking forward to going camping this weekend. Weeeee camping! |

So, I had Dorian neutered and the vet did bloodwork that I didn't authorize and found out he has Feline Leukemia Virus, which is the equivalent of HIV in humans. He really shouldn't live with other cats, though Raina's cats have been tested and they're fine. They've also been immunized, but I guess that's only 70% effective.
I can't send him back to where he came from (farm) because he needs to be an indoor cat with low exposure to things that could make him sick, since he'll probably at some point have an immune system that's compromised. I can't give him to the humane society because they'll immediately kill him. He's perfectly healthy right now and probably will remain so until he gets into old age.
So, I guess if you or anyone you know wants a cat that doesn't already have one, let me know. He's a sweet, very cuddly kitten, well behaved and pretty quiet. He's grey with medium length soft fur. He's just over 6 months old.
I guess there's a chance that his immune system will fight off the virus before it gets infected. I kinda want to keep him another 6 months to see if that works. I don't know. The situation sucks. |

| Adventures in not dying |

So, I had this nasty cold/bronchitis thing for about a month. A little over a week ago it got lots worse. Last Thursday I was coughing so much that I couldn't breath and my limbs and lips were tingling. Luckily Miss EV took me to the emergency room. You know a cough is bad when 4 or 5 people that work in the ER comment on it. I got to breath again and pretend to be a little Vader (nebulizer makes me sound funny). They decided it was bacterial something... bronchitis or atypical pneumonia and gave me antibiotics.
ER take two was the next night with Doug and my Mom. I reacted really badly to the "kill all bugglets" drugs and got dehydrated. Turns out you need bugglets to process foods, and so I just stopped processing food along with the other drugs I was supposed to be taking. It was full of special. They gave me IV fluids and what I can only assume was some strong opiate. I also drank radioactive 7-up to make sure that my appendix was not going to splode. (As a side note, radioactive burps are unpleasant.)
I think I spent the next 4 or 5 days not moving much. EV stayed here to take care of me and I am forever grateful to her. EV is my hero(ine)! Willson and Raina were also helpful. I was so crazy sick. Food didn't stay inside. I couldn't really sit up or stand on my own, holding my head up was a challenge. I had insanely debilitating stomach cramps and was sweating but shivering. I guess I had the opposite of a fever. They said at the ER that my temperature was lower than it should be. EV called me captain of the couch ship.
Since around Wednesday I've started to feel a bit more human each day. After the antibiotics were done I started to be able to eat food again. Yesterday I was finally strong enough to stand long enough to take a shower (before that I sat in the bathtub). Right now I'm sitting up with no problems and my stomach is sore but not cramping. I even put on real clothes today! The annoying thing is that all my muscles and joints are super cranky with me for not moving for so long.
I'm hoping to be semi functional again by Monday. I've missed much too much work and school. So far behind in everything. :(
I'm a bit worried because I'm still coughing some. I hope this is just the tail end of getting better instead of the antibiotics not working. Cause if they didn't work all the way, I'm in a world of danger...
Oh yeah, I ended up naming the kitten Dorian. Either because he's gray or because mixolydian was too hard to pronounce.
My friends are so full of awesomeness. I win. :-)
Edit: I forgot to mention earlier that once I was semi coherent I started watching lots of Dr. Who, which then lead to me having a dream where I was at a bar with my Dad, my Uncle and Dalek. |

I just got accepted for the U of M Anthropology Department's Doctoral Program! Weeeeeee
I'll be starting next fall. I also have 5 years of guaranteed funding which makes me a happy girl.
Two days ago my roommate moved out. I replaced him with a kitten. He's grey and adorable and is sleeping next to me right now. His old name was Chester, but I'm considering replacing it. Any suggestions? You should come visit us. We like people.
I have a cold, but I have tea with fresh ginger and honey and I'm hiding inside under blankets. |

I got a new computer at work... it's so sexy. Yeah, I realize saying a computer is sexy makes me a complete geek. But you've gotta understand, it has dual flat screen monitors and I went from having 2 gigs of RAM to almost 6! It's got a nice video card and it's all new and shiny and mine. *grin* No more 3D animations on a laptop.
I finally signed up for the GRE. Annoyed that it costs $140. Taking it in 3 weeks. Haven't studied for it yet. Anyone wanna re-teach me math? They'll be gratefulness and probably baked goods as a reward.

People have asked me for an lj update. I haven't written in so long, I don't know what to write anymore.
I have an undead zombie fish! It disappeared for 3 days and I could have sworn I took out a little dessicated fishy body. It's only a 5 gallon tank... dunno where he hid. But he's back now and undead as ever. (I'm secretly in experimentation to breed an undead fishy army... muahaha!)
There was a bomb threat where I work/go to school. People keep saying it was some kid that didn't want to take a test. There are much easier ways to avoid a test and not get in the amount of trouble you would if caught for a bomb threat. Seems to me like it was someone that wanted a power trip... see the world bend to their will for half a day.
I threw up last weekend and then was in a wedding later that day. That was full of interesting and trying not to pass out. It was the wedding of my basket buddy, Mali... who came over from India in the same basket (on a plane) with me. They actually used the basket in the ceremony. I felt special! (and nauseated).
I spend last weekend trying to recover. Now I'm working, well taking a break from working. But yeah, having a big project due and not having anyone else to help and getting sick is no fun. Now I get to work till 3am. Wheeeee.
Once again, I'm looking for a roommate. Eric is moving out at the end of the semester (which was the plan all along). Let me know if anyone is looking for a place to stay. No smokers please.
I accidentally found out the literal meaning of lemon juice in a paper cut. Holy damn! I found it all almost as funny as it was painful. The looks on Chuck's and Mark's faces were priceless.
Oh and specially for Jaye... jackalopes are real! Not technically, but if you give a rabbit HPV (yeah, the STI they just came up with a vaccine for), they grow warty horn looking things. There's an epidemic in Minneapolis. |

Hey guys,
Its been a long time since I posted anything meaningful. Truth is, I don't know what to say.
Educational plans for the future are crystallizing. I'm taking Bones class this fall, which intimidates me. But by the end of it I should be able to identify most mammal bones. Which is a useful skill, or a fun parlor trick, depending on how the rest of my life goes.
Gotta take the GRE soon. Seeing as I didn't take any math in college (took stats instead), that'll be interesting. If anyone who has taken it is willing to give advice, I'm certainly willing to listen.
I've been moderately sick for a long time. I think I'm finally close to better-ish. I'm taking 3 dance classes this semester (2 yoga and one belly dancing). Hopefully by the end of the semester I'll have my strength back.
It feels like my friend group has shifted. I'm no longer close to many people that I was a couple years ago. It makes me sad, but it seems slightly inevitable.
Work is crazy right now, but I think it'll calm down a bit once a fall routine sets in. I'm rather worried about making deadlines as everything takes more time than you think it will, even if you plan for extra time you think it'll take.
I miss Charlie.
A helicopter with a search light just flew past my window. I hope things didn't get more messed up with the bridge. There aren't any sirens associated with the helicopter so things are probably ok.
I'm getting rambly now.
Time for sleep. Or at least time to get off the internets. |

The bridge collapsed very near my apartment. I'm fine. Thank you so much to everyone that called/messaged me. I feel very loved.
I rode the bus next to a lady who crawled up the incline to safety. She was a little scratched on her arm. We talked a lot. She needed a hug, and I'm glad I was there to give her one. |

So the good news is that I found a potential roommate! The bad news is he isn't moving in for another 2.5 months... (but he'll take over paying for July anyway). I also don't know him very well, but that's better than a complete stranger.
Bad news, I HATE living alone.
Conclusion, now that finals are over, I'll have more time for friends (starting next week). And.. you should come visit me cause I'm lonely. And... anyone have a mini grill I can borrow? I want to have a grill party using the balcony.
And... pictures and stories and whatnot from Egypt are coming. Patience my dearies, I have over 1000 pictures and I'm pairing them down to around 50-100.
Hrm... one more question. Scenario: I forgot to make a yahoo user name and now I'm locked out of my flickr account. How do I fix this? (I've tried telling them I forgot what my user name is, but since I never made one, they don't believe me.) |

Hey guys. I'm heading off to Egypt in a few hours! Should be great fun. :-)
I'll be there till April 21st. If you need to get a hold me, Charlie has my hotel n stuff. I'm going with my mom as a belated graduation gift.
Hey awesome moving crew!: Mike's Nintendo DS disappeared when I moved out. It was on the banister and I'm betting someone put it somewhere safe so it wouldn't fall off during the move. If people remember where they put it, let Mike know so he can play the game with the turnips again!
Sorry I've been rather distant. I've been having some medical problems that are leaving me tired and unsocial. Hopefully I'll be better soon. |

So, in human sexuality last night, the issue of male circumcision came up. I was extremely surprised that about 1/3 of the class supported it, 1/3 were against it, and 1/3 were undecided.
So now I'm curious. If you have a male child, (or if you're not planning to have children pretend an expecting friend asked your advice on the matter) would you circumcise the child?

I don't have internets for a while. My network card died or something. I'll figure it out later.
I'm still sick. I've spent 7 out of the last 9 days in bed. Current theories are that either I have pnenomia or the flu. Maybe I just have a really freaking bad cold. I finally mostly stopped coughing up nasty yellow goo. People have convinced me to go to the doctor, so I guess I'll do that tomorrow. Man, it really sucks not having insurance.... I have a feeling this will be expensive.
Update: I'm now a little over $100 poorer. I have bronchitis. I have pnemonia in my lower right lung. I have cough syrup laced with narcotics. I have antibiotics. I have another couple days off of everything. Hopefully I'll be feeling much better soon.
Anybody wanna come and watch a movie with me or something? I'm sick of staring at my wall. |

| The bus sucks. |

This afternoon I was verbally harassed by about 6 guys at the bus stop. They wanted my name, age and phone number. Said they wanted to do all sorts of lewd things to me. Saying they wanted to "grind up on me" and making the body motions to go with it. I mentioned that I had a boyfriend, hoping that would deter them, but it didn't seem to make a difference. In the end, they weren't even waiting for the bus...
Once on the bus yet another guy who was clearly intoxicated expressed his love for me and wanted to give me $1000 dollars. "Baby, don't you know I love you, you gotta know I love you...." A few stops later a police woman removed him from the bus.
Now I feel like I could just curl up in a ball.
I can't wait until I can move and don't have to deal with the stupid bus anymore...
Anyone know where I can get some pepper spray? |
